Growing Social Networking Site, MySpace.com, to Enhance Network Connectivity with Users via Equinix Data Center

Jun 27, 2005

Foster City, CA — June 27, 2005 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that MySpace.com, the leading social networking Web site, has moved into Equinix's Los Angeles Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) center, with planned expansion to Equinix IBX centers located in the Chicago and Washington, D.C. areas. MySpace.com will use these deployments at Equinix to enhance the way the company's Web content is delivered to the networks serving its end- users.

MySpace.com is a Social Networking portal that allows users to connect around shared interests. By tightly integrating web profiles, blogs, instant messaging, mail, music downloads, photo galleries, classified listings, events groups, music videos and chatrooms into one connected community, MySpace.com has become the largest site of its kind. With a rapidly growing base of over 19 million users, MySpace.com's network infrastructure requires a robust platform for the fast and reliable delivery of content to end-users.

Operating within Equinix's network-rich environment will provide MySpace.com with direct access to a critical mass of network service providers, giving it the greatest amount of flexibility in the management of IT operations. To enhance the delivery of content to end-users, MySpace.com will exchange data, or "peer," with these networks through the Equinix Exchange™ service. Through a central switching fabric managed by Equinix, Equinix Exchange facilitates network and content peering amongst Equinix customers, enabling MySpace.com to conveniently leverage the cost reduction and performance benefits of direct interconnection to the variety of networks at Equinix, including the all of the top tier IP backbone networks. Equinix Exchange has become a strategic element in the increasingly important peering infrastructure of many content companies.

"Equinix provides us with a flexible platform where we can rapidly scale operations and more efficiently connect to the networks that provide the critical link between MySpace.com and our end-users," said Aber Whitcomb, CTO of MySpace.com. "Equinix offers a secure and reliable physical data center environment and the peace of mind knowing that we're partnering with a company that has a long-term vision and commitment to the market."

"As peering continues to grow in importance as the primary method by which content is exchanged between the networks that comprise the Internet, content providers as well as network service providers are finding that Equinix is most efficient location from which to base their peering operations," said Margie Backaus, chief business officer of Equinix. "By establishing peering operations at Equinix, MySpace.com is also expected to reduce transit costs."
