KDDI Corporation Expands Operations at Equinix with Move to Tokyo Data Center

Jun 28, 2005

Tokyo, Japan — June 28, 2005 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centres and Internet exchange services, today announced that KDDI Corporation, a leading carrier in Japan serving more than 2.8 million Internet subscribers, has installed a network point of presence (PoP) in Equinix's Tokyo Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) centre.

An Equinix customer in the U.S. since 2002, KDDI's deployment into Equinix Tokyo IBX enables them to directly offer their services to customers and other enterprises hosted within the Equinix IBX. As a result, customers colocating in Equinix Tokyo IBX will gain access to lower-cost KDDI's network services; particularly corporate broadband services, which include internet gateway services, ultra-high-speed dedicated line services, and Ether-VPN services.

Equinix's carrier-neutral business model is one of the key factors that led KDDI to select Equinix's Tokyo data center for their PoP location. The combination of enhanced infrastructure at Equinix and high-quality network services from KDDI meets the high expectations of both Japanese businesses and consumers. Equinix's data center customers can now connect to the KDDI backbone network directly without needing to go through a regional carrier.

"KDDI seeks to increase our market share through the continuous enhancement of our products and services. The deployment of this new PoP at Equinix's Tokyo data center means that we can deliver high-quality services to data center customers more economically than previously," said Mr. Tadashi Onodera, president of KDDI Corporation.

"As the leading neutral co-location player in Japan, Equinix is committed to working with our customers to ensure a flexible platform that conveniently enables the expansion of operations," said David Wilkinson, country manager of Equinix Japan. "In addition, we have expanded our suite of Equinix Command Center (ECC) managed service offerings to further respond to the specific needs of the Asia-Pacific market."
