Mobi PCS Signs Multi-Million Dollar Deal with Equinix to Operate within Honolulu Data Center

Sep 27, 2005

Foster City, CA — September 27, 2005 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that Mobi PCS (www.mobipcs.com), Hawaii's first and only unlimited-use wireless voice and data service provider, has signed a multi-million dollar agreement to establish operations within Equinix's Honolulu Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) center. The deployment will serve as Mobi PCS' main point of presence (POP) and switching center for all customer calls serviced by the company's wireless network.

As the newest mobile operator in Hawaii, Mobi PCS will launch service in early 2006 with unlimited local and long distance calling for under $50 per month, with additional voice and data features available for consumers to customize a plan to their needs. As the company deploys the latest in wireless technology, such as an all-digital, 3G-capable CDMA network, it requires a high-performance data center infrastructure that offers the flexibility to rapidly deploy and scale operations while interconnecting with an aggregation of strategic networking partners operating within a single, central hub.

Equinix's industry-leading data center environment provides a secure and redundant platform for Mobi PCS' wireless operations and a compelling alternative to building its own data and switching center. In addition to providing a one-stop solution for interconnecting with an aggregation of network service providers, the size of Equinix's center offers a convenient platform to scale operations based on natural or seasonal growth. Power operations include a high-performance backup system that provides uninterrupted power even in the event of utility power disruption. Security features include interlocking "mantrap" doors, multiple layers of biometric hand-geometry scanners controlling access, as well as 24-hour security officers and hundreds of surveillance cameras.

"As Mobi PCS builds a new network and infrastructure in preparation for its launch of service, time-to-market considerations were a high priority for us," said Bill Jarvis, president and CEO of Mobi PCS. "With Equinix, we have access to an industry-leading data center with the flexibility to grow our operations over time, while saving the millions of dollars and time required to build our own switching center."

"Mobi PCS is an excellent example of how companies that have previously maintained their own data and switching centers are now finding that outsourcing to Equinix's state-of-the-art facilities offers significant, cost, flexibility, time to market, and strategic interconnection benefits," said Margie Backaus, chief business officer for Equinix.
