Petfinder.com to Launch Emergency Response Network from Equinix Data Center

Oct 12, 2005

Foster City, CA — October 12, 2005 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, today announced that Petfinder.com, the oldest and largest searchable directory of adoptable pets on the Web, has signed an agreement to establish operations within one of Equinix's New York area Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) centers. The deployment to Equinix will support the operations of Petfinder.com's ongoing mission to help animal placement organizations find homes for their homeless pets, as well as support their new Animal Emergency Response Network, a service that will help match animal victims and caretakers during times of emergency or natural disaster.

Petfinder.com offers an online, searchable database of over 190,000 animals that need homes, as well as a directory of more than 9,000 animal shelters and adoption organizations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The company's recently launched Animal Emergency Response Network provides a collaborative database that links information from the public and emergency response organizations, making it available to rescuers, victims and volunteers. In order to ensure the highest levels of performance and uptime for the database and Web infrastructure supporting the Network, Petfinder.com requires reliable and secure access to the networks supporting its end-users as well as a high-performance data center environment in which to host their operations.

By expanding to Equinix's network-rich New York center, Petfinder.com can directly access a large aggregation of network service providers offering connectivity to end-users, within a single centralized location, rather than reaching these strategic partners in multiple disparate locations.

Equinix's industry-leading data center environment also provides Petfinder.com with a secure and redundant physical platform for IT operations. Power operations include a high-performance backup system that provides uninterrupted power even in the event of utility power disruption. Security features include interlocking "mantrap" doors, multiple layers of biometric hand-geometry scanners controlling access, as well as 24-hour security officers and hundreds of surveillance camera.

"The recent hurricanes in the Gulf States have highlighted both the human and animal toll of natural disasters and the need for an efficient and reliable system of linking animals and caregivers," said Betsy Saul, president and CEO of Petfinder.com. "With our expansion to Equinix, we will deploy a high-performance IT and connectivity infrastructure that will support our ongoing mission as well as the Animal Emergency Response Network during times of crisis."

"We are pleased to work with Petfinder.com which regularly provides a much needed service of connecting potential owners with the overwhelming population of homeless pets, as well as providing an important service during emergency situations," said Margie Backaus, chief business officer for Equinix. "For companies such as Petfinder.com that require, on an everyday basis, reliable and efficient connectivity for critical database applications, Equinix provides a combination of state-of- the-art physical centers with access to a large aggregation of networks to ensure the highest levels of uptime and performance."
