Equinix to Provide Network Exchange Infrastructure for VoIP Provider Broadband Phone in Australia

Nov 14, 2005

Sydney, Australia — November 14, 2005 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading provider of network-neutral data centres and Internet exchange services, today announced that Broadband Phone Pty Limited has selected Equinix to provide colocation and network exchange services from the Equinix Sydney Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) centre. As a part of the agreement, BroadBand Phone will utilise Equinix's Sydney hub as the primary network interconnection point for the delivery of their wholesale VoIP services for retail and wholesale customers, including ISPs and service providers.

BroadBand Phone offers a “quick to market” wholesale VoIP solution enabling ISPs and service providers to offer VoIP services to their existing customer bases and to new markets. The company also offers prepaid and postpaid VoIP solutions, A-Z worldwide termination, and Direct In Dial (DID) of Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) phone numbers. In order to support the latency-sensitive service levels needed for VoIP services, BroadBand Phone requires a high-performance and reliable network connectivity infrastructure that minimizes unnecessary “hops” to intermediate carriers when moving VoIP traffic between origin and destination. The Equinix Sydney IBX center provides a unique environment for BroadBand Phone to streamline its network connectivity infrastructure by providing immediate and direct access to an aggregation of leading carriers, ISPs and network services within the same physical location. By reaching these strategic partners in one centralized location, BroadBand Phone can avoid the cost and quality issues associated with reaching these partners in multiple locations and across great distances. The wide diversity of domestic and international service providers operating within the centre also allows BroadBand Phone to exchange VoIP traffic with carriers around the world, and to provide dedicated hosting of IP-PBXs for SME clients.

“Equinix will now become the main interconnection hub for BroadBand Phone to exchange VoIP traffic and peer with other service providers,” said Miranda Wong, Director of BroadBand Phone. “This move will enable BroadBand Phone to enhance our service offerings to ISPs and companies who do not have a VoIP network, such as small businesses that want to host their dedicated IP-PBX within a carrier grade data centre. It also enables us to broaden services for ISPs or companies who run their own VoIP network by offering A-Z wholesale termination via SIP or H323, PRI and/or SIP trunks with DIDs from all major Australian cities at one single point of connection within Equinix's Sydney hub.”

“By operating at Equinix, BroadBand Phone will enjoy a carrier neutral and redundant environment for hosting its VoIP services with immediate proximity to customer and partner networks,” said Doug Oates, Managing Director of Equinix Australia. “BroadBand Phone is one of the first VoIP wholesale providers in Australia, and we expect their participation at Equinix to attract more VoIP service providers into Equinix's Sydney hub."

Equinix is a major neutral co-location player in Sydney with more than 100 customers operating within the Sydney IBX centre.
