The theme for the forum is “The Emerging Wave of Content,” featuring an exciting lineup of educational sessions from industry experts. Featured presentations include: Matthew Sturgess from Limelight Networks, presenting on “Delivering the Digital Lifestyle”; Che Hoo Cheng from Flag Telecom, presenting on “Keep Intra-Asia Traffic within Asia”; Arthur Cheong of Starhub, presenting on “Regional ISP Peering Experiences”; Gaurab Raj Upadhaya from Packet Clearing House, presenting on “Analyzing AS-PATH to decipher Peering Relationships and BGP Anomalies”; and TRUE Corporation's Dr. Anotai Ratt, presenting on “Peering Environments in Thailand & Areas of Growth in Content Traffic/Trends.”
A special content tutorial session, conducted by William Norton, cofounder and chief technical liaison of Equinix, will cover the foundations of content and peering. The tutorial includes topics such as “Why SingTel Won't Peer?” and the Peering Simulation game. Norton, who will chair the forum, will also present his notes on “The Next Wave of Massive Disruptions to the Peering Ecosystem.” The paper, researched over the last four years with hundreds of peering coordinators, addresses how increased Internet access bandwidth, utilization and dependency on existing infrastructure deployed across Asia result in a greater reliance on the interconnect infrastructure.
With the growing popularity of broadband access services and Internet content in Singapore and throughout Asia Pacific, it is increasingly important for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and content providers to have a high performance yet low cost IP interconnect strategy that is tailored to each individual market. Peering is a key element of these strategies, as it allows network service providers, content companies and content distributors to directly connect to each other and eliminate intermediate network backbones. This streamlined connectivity between networks and content providers enhances performance, reliability and reduces transit costs.
"As demand for content grows in Asia Pacific, it has become increasingly important for both content providers and ISPs to build mutually beneficial relationships that increase the performance of their services while reducing cost," said Samuel Lee, Vice President of Equinix Asia Pacific. "Equinix's network neutral data centres provide the ideal meeting environment for such relationships.”
In addition to the technical presentations, a key objective of this forum will be to present participants with opportunities to establish beneficial peering relationships. Equinix's Gigabit Peering Forums have drawn hundreds of participants from leading network service providers and content companies such as Starhub, T-Systems, KDDI, MCI, Navitaire, and Yahoo!
The forum will take place at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Singapore beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2006. The Singapore forum is the sixth Peering Forum hosted by Equinix in Asia Pacific. Equinix will host the next forum in Sydney in November.
