Three of the world's leading Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), AMS-IX, DE-CIX and LINX, are hosting the event on the 28th and 29th of November 2007 in Barcelona, Spain. The event brings together more than 150 peering coordinators and network managers from the networks connected to the respective IXPs to discuss all aspects of peering, from negotiating to operations.
Peering is a cost-neutral arrangement between two IP networks to exchange Internet traffic. It is undertaken to reduce costs and provide more direct routing of that traffic. Equinix hosts many of the key peering points within its datacentres across the world and works closely with the IXPs to play an active role in the evolution of the industry.
Michael Winterson, VP Sales & Marketing at Equinix in Europe will be presenting “Scaling European Peering Infrastructure” to the delegates. “Today's problems in the Internet are no longer the last mile,” said Winterson. “The sheer volume of IP data that is presenting itself today is starting to test the very engine of the Internet. ISPs, commercial exchanges, datacenters, networks - we all need to work together to ensure a smooth transition to the next level.”
Equinix, through its network-neutral datacentre model, aims to improve the effectiveness of the Internet by providing a secure, resilient and stable environment for companies to operate their equipment and to network together.
Through its network of 14 datacentres in four key markets in Europe, Equinix's peering platform includes some of Europe's leading internet exchanges including TIX, CIXP, FreeIX, PANAP, SFINX, DeCiX and Lyon-IX. Additionally, Equinix owns and operates the largest Internet exchange in Switzerland (TIX based in Zurich) and co-manages the CERN Internet Exchange Point (CIXP) in Geneva.
