Meebo Uses Equinix IBX Center to Deliver Live Communications Services with Highest Levels of Performance

Jun 25, 2008

Foster City, CA — June 25, 2008 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), the leading global provider of network-neutral data centers and Internet exchange services, announced today that Meebo, the Web's live communications platform, has established operations at one of Equinix's Internet Business Exchange™ (IBX®) centers in the Silicon Valley. The move has enabled Meebo to enhance the delivery of its services globally by operating within a fully redundant, high-performance data center that offers direct access to a large aggregation of networks that link to their users.

Meebo provides instant messaging and group chat to over 35 million people at Meebo.com and partner sites across the Web. The average person at Meebo.com spends over two hours on the site per day, and Meebo handles conversations consisting of over 5 billion messages per month. In order to provide the best end-user experience for its low-latency applications, Meebo is leveraging Equinix's industry-leading data center environment that provides a secure and redundant physical platform for IT operations. Power operations of the center include a high-performance backup system that provides uninterrupted power even in the event of utility power disruption. The center is also designed to accommodate the cooling and power needs of the latest generation of High Power Density (HPD) equipment. In addition, Equinix's Silicon Valley center enables Meebo to operate on a flexible platform for expansion as their business grows.

In addition to the physical infrastructure of the center, Equinix provides Meebo with a network-rich environment with direct access to the more than 250 Internet-based customers, which include online businesses, carriers, ISPs and network service providers, enabling Meebo to implement a robust, high-performance multi-network connectivity infrastructure. By directly interconnecting with this aggregation of companies in a single location, rather than connecting to them in multiple, disparate locations and over long distances, Meebo will be able to reduce bottlenecks in the path between its services and its end-users, providing improved performance levels.

“As Meebo continues to grow, we need a data center that can meet our ever-growing demands to scale,” said Sandy Jen, co-founder and vice president of engineering of Meebo. “Equinix is a great partner and ensures that our users all around the world experience great reliability and uptime from Meebo.”

“Meebo's platform is another example of an innovative solution that harnesses live interactive technology to enhance communications,” said Margie Backaus, chief business officer of Equinix. “At Equinix, Meebo can operate within a high-reliability environment that ensures the most streamlined delivery of these services to end-users.”
