With Expansion in New York Market, Abovenet Now Offering Connectivity Services in All 20 of Equinix's U.S. Data Centers

Network and Infrastructure Services Provider Also Peering and Selling Services Across Nine Equinix Data Centers in Europe

Jan 20, 2010

Foster City, CA and White Plains, NY - January 20, 2010 - Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), a provider of global data center services, and AboveNet, Inc. (NYSE: ABVT), a leading provider of high bandwidth connectivity solutions, today announced that AboveNet has deployed operations to the Equinix New York-1 (NY1) International Business Exchange™ (IBX®) data center, marking the company's deployment to all 20 of Equinix's IBX centers in the U.S. The U.S. deployments, along with AboveNet's operations within nine of Equinix's 20 IBX centers in Europe, enable AboveNet to enhance the exchange of data with other networks and to sell its network and infrastructure services to the aggregation of companies participating in Equinix's centers.

The presence of AboveNet in Equinix's U.S. centers provides existing Equinix customers with direct access to a top global infrastructure services provider. AboveNet operates a global Tier 1 optical IP network, as well as a variety of digital communications infrastructure services, including a metropolitan area fiber network, Ethernet and managed services. By operating within the same center as AboveNet, Equinix IBX participants will be able to quickly and easily establish relationships with the provider.

“We have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Equinix, and this new deployment in New York marks a significant milestone in that collaboration,” said AboveNet Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing John Joc' Jacquay. “Equinix's centers offer an opportunity to make our services available nationwide to a large audience of enterprises, content companies and networks already operating within Equinix's centers. As the demand for carrier Ethernet services continues to grow, we look forward to building out our Ethernet platform at Equinix.”

To enhance its exchange of data, or “peering,” with other Tier 1 networks, AboveNet is utilizing Equinix's global services delivery platform located in IBX data centers within major metro areas, such as Washington, D.C., Silicon Valley and Chicago. Peering is one way in which Internet traffic - from email to video - is exchanged among the backbone networks that make up the Internet. Through Equinix, AboveNet leverages the benefits of direct interconnection to a variety of networks, including some of the largest IP backbone networks.

“As Equinix has expanded operations in the U.S. and globally, AboveNet has increased its commitment to leveraging the marketplace that exists in our global IBX data centers,” said Jarrett Appleby, chief marketing officer for Equinix. “Our partnership with AboveNet offers a strong Tier 1 network and high bandwidth connectivity solution options for the community of IBX participants while offering AboveNet significant new revenue opportunities and a national infrastructure for Tier 1 peering and future carrier Ethernet needs.”
