Equinix Appoints New Country Manager For Australia

Tony Simonsen joins Equinix to lead next phase of local expansion

Feb 21, 2012

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA— February 21, 2012 — Equinix, Inc. (Nasdaq: EQIX), a provider of global data centre services, today announced the appointment of Tony Simonsen as the company’s new country manager for Australia. An IT veteran with more than 20 years of experience, Simonsen will lead the next phase of expansion for Platform EquinixÔ in Australia, capitalising on business opportunities presented through the rapid proliferation of cloud, mobile and big data technologies.

Simonsen brings a wealth of industry expertise and leadership accolades to his new role as country manager, having previously held a number of senior executive roles with companies such as Cisco and EMC, where he was responsible for EMC’s Global Services / Technology Solutions division in Australia and New Zealand. He joins Equinix from global technology firm Pitney Bowes where he was the managing director of Australia and also played a key role in building the enterprise strategy across the Asia-Pacific region.

President of Equinix, Asia-Pacific, Samuel Lee, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Tony as our new country manager for Australia. With his extensive experience in driving strategic revenue growth, he will play a pivotal role in the continued growth and success of Platform Equinix in the region. Equinix has made a significant investment in the Australian market, most recently opening Phase I of our US$65 million Sydney 3 datacentre. With increasing demand from companies to capitalise on Equinix’s dense ecosystems in financial services and cloud computing, Tony’s appointment comes at a great time for us.”

Commenting on his new role, Simonsen said, “Equinix is synonymous with providing the highest level of reliability, interconnectivity and security, having just been awarded the Frost & Sullivan Australia Excellence Award for datacentre services provider of the year. It is an exciting time for the datacentre industry as we enter a new age of data-intensive technologies such as cloud computing, mobile services and big data analytics, and as businesses seek outsourcing or colocation services to develop their IT infrastructure in a cost-effective and energy-efficient manner.”

Simonsen will be based in Sydney. He replaces Darren Mann, who has taken on a business development role with the company.
