Managing Director of Equinix Canada, Andrew Eppich, commented: “The Canadian data regulatory landscape is quickly evolving, with many businesses struggling to keep up with the changes. According to our latest Global Tech Trends Survey, a majority of Canadian IT leaders (60%) said their organizations were not prepared for evolving data sovereignty regulations due to insufficient IT infrastructure. Our Geo-Boundary feature offers organizations an enhanced level of control over their data, simplifying boundary control with a flip of a switch.”
Available to Equinix Fabric customers, the Geo-Boundary feature will help private and public sector organizations meet data management and connection requirements by allowing organizations to choose between two virtually defined boundary zones in Canada or the U.S. Customers can select the applicable boundary zone which align across the Canadian and U.S. border during the initial provisioning of their connection.
For example, a Canadian healthcare research facility in Vancouver wants connectivity with its research unit in Toronto but is required to keep their data traffic within Canada. They can use the Geo-Boundary feature to eliminate Seattle or Chicago as a possible route, ensuring data is carried on network routes within Canada to reach its destination in Toronto.
Eppich added: "Today’s data sovereignty requirements for organizations mean that moving data across the border could create regulatory risks that those businesses can’t allow for. By bringing the best of Equinix to Canada, we can help organizations navigate the evolving regulatory landscape by enabling them to manage their data efficiently and securely, while meeting data sovereignty compliance requirements.”
There will be no charge to enable a Geo-Boundary at launch. The feature is available to Equinix Fabric customers today.
